Q How much heat will patio heaters produce?
A. The latest 2009 patio heaters produce around 41,000 BTU/h of power, the size of a small central heating boiler and enough to heat a small house. Don't be fooled into thinking more is better, anything larger requires a much wider reflector to harness the heat and reflect downwards or the heat is lost in the air, so far nobody manufactures giant reflectors. Our patio heaters have unique high energy stainless steel burner finely balanced between optimum useable heat versus running costs. Always check the burner itself is stainless steel and not just steel or chrome type fitted to most other brands of patio heaters.
Q What is the warranty on your BFX patio heaters?
A. We offer high quality patio heaters that are built to last for years, we back that up with a 2 year return to base warranty on our patio heaters.
Q. How much gas do patio heaters use?
A. All our patio heaters have the latest high energy burners with pilot control so you decide how high or low you want the heat. At full power our patio heaters will use just under 1kg of LPG per hour. Older 16kw gas guzzlers burn a great deal more, our high energy burners yield plenty of heat without costing a fortune and wasting energy. You'll find the best way to use patio heaters is to warm the area up and then reduce the heat control to your comfort zone. Under normal use a gas LPG cylinder will last 3-6 weeks depending on the weather.
Q. Are electric patio heaters cheaper to run?
A. Typical 2KW electric patio heaters will cost approx 9p per KW per hour. LPG patio heaters at max heat (13KW) costs 8p per KW, turn it down to 7KW and the cost goes down to less than 6p per KW. Gas and electric patio heaters emit radiant heat that heats object.
Q. Are all patio heaters the same?
A. Just like TV’s/Stereo’s there are high end specifications and low budget models with vast differences in quality, the cheap budget models may look very similar from a distance but will not perform the same. Many budget patio heaters cut costs by fitting chrome or tin plated burners to stainless steel patio heaters, see stainless steel page. If the specification states steel burner or is not mentioned it's best to avoid.
All our domestic and commercial gas patio heaters are fitted with stainless steel burners and shipped with our triple safety features.
Q. Do you supply free covers, wheels and regulators?
A. Our domestic gas patio heaters are shipped with a full length starter cover, wheels, regulator and LPG hose. We prefer not to call components as "free", the word free is often used to mislead customers, they are an integral part of patio heaters and should be included.
Q. What are commercial patio heaters?
A. BFX760 commercial patio heaters and BFX770 commercial patio heaters are the ones you’ll see in pubs, bars and restaurants. These patio heaters are more robust, manufactured with higher grade components and engineered to take the heavy duty of commercial life - for more information visit what makes patio heaters commercial grade?
Q. How easy are patio heaters to use?
A. Since 2006 all BFX patio heaters have been fitted with the latest quick fire controls, just press the push button piezo ignition, wait 30 seconds and your patio heater will be ready to use.
Q. I don’t know anything about gas, how do I get gas?
A. We can supply the LPG gas for patio heaters direct to your door via the gas company, to order see patio heater gas supply. Pricing is the same with no delivery charge. If you wish to get LPG gas yourself we recommend propane for all models using an 11kg or 13kg cylinder and with a clip-on fitting. Our patio heaters are supplied with EN 12864 propane regulator and EN 1763-1 LPG hose.
Q. Can you leave patio heaters outside all the time?
A. In the spring, summer and autumn it’s no problem and patio heaters will come to no harm. For winter it’s best to move patio heaters under cover and bring out when they are to be used. Stainless steel patio heaters are more durable than a powder coated patio heaters, for more info on stainless steel patio heaters see: why is a stainless steel patio heater "stainless"?
